Beasts, Burdens, Barbecue and Blues

Today we finally got to do something other than riding in a bus!  It was a great day exploring the historic and energetic city of Memphis.

We started the day by going to the Memphis zoo. There were tons of animals that you wouldn’t normally see in a zoo in Minnesota like giraffes, pandas, hippos, and elephants. It was really exciting to see Evan Bailey enjoy the zoo and listen to him talk about the animals. (:

After going to the zoo we went to the Civil Rights Museum. The museum was an eye opening experience for all ages. Some were first time visitors and others were back for their second visit or more. Overall everyone learned something new and had a very memorable experience.

B.B King’s was so good–the best food ever on Beale street.  I was shopping so crazy and it was fun as heck.  It was exciting to be with our friends.  The music was great–even some dancing with random folks–CRAZY!  The best part was the “flippers” and the tricks they did in the air as street performers.  (You may know about them from America’s Got Talent).  All in all Beale street was so crazy and fun.

Tonight after we returned from Beale Street we worshiped as a large group at the hotel for the first time on the trip. It was exciting to have everyone in one spot worshiping and singing songs all together. There is just something about being with 96 of your closest friends that makes everything perfect.

It really was the perfect end to a perfect day.  More great friendships made, lessons learned, along with the joy and laughter that is Friends in Faith.

We thank you all for your support and go forward on our journey with God–next to Pensacola, Florida.  (Another long day on the bus–argh!)

Walking in Memphis…

Today we departed Lee’s Summit super duper early and headed for the “blue suede shoes” town; aka Memphis. We stopped in the moldy city (St. Louis) to catch a quick glimpse of the famous Gateway Arch. We stopped for lunch at the nearest rest stop and shared our lunch with the bees. After some awesome bus games, including bus bingo for some, we made it to Memphis, and listened to the song “Walking in Memphis” by Mark Cohn. We went out to eat at some delicious places and then gathered back as the best small group in town. Signed: Kirsten’s group.

Memphis: live from j kaspy, lawr-daddy, big weisser, and baby back byes’ room 207

Today just flew by. A combination of bus games, cuddling up on the bus, and visiting some big arch in st. Louis can really take a lot out of you though. Our food expedition began with a bang tonight at Amerigo, a fancy italian restaurant, and pf changs! Mussels went down the gullet smoothly, we then discovered a bottle of listerine in the bathroom. There are some wise people who live in these parts. Tomorrow is the zoo, which by far will be the most exciting part of trip. So we better get some rest, nighty night. You say classy trinity.

We’re not in Kansas anymore…

We safely arrived in lee summit Missouri after a grueling 10 hour drive. Bus games presented great opportunities to meet new people. We met THE lewis and clark and had a nice conversation with them in Sioux city. Also, it was great seeing all the support at the send off service Wednesday night! It’s past all our bedtimes, so this is Erik, Brett, Kelsey, Olivia, and Ryan signing off. You stay classy trinity.

New Orleans!!!!

We are so excited to experience the 2012 Youth Gathering with all of these amazing youth and adults! This group of 96 people will leave on Thursday, July 12th to share their faith with those around them and experience what it means to be “Citizens with the Saints”.

Please join us on Wednesday, July 11th at 7pm at Gooseberry Park for a send-off worship service for all the adults and youth going on the New Orleans Gathering Trip. We will sing songs and hear from some of the seniors going on the trip.

To stay connected with us while we are on the trip, check back on this website for new stories and pictures everyday! Each small group will take a turn sharing what their stories are from the trip. You can even follow us (@TrinityFiF) and some of the adult leaders on Twitter!

On Wednesday, July 18th everyone is invited to come to the Christian Life
Center at 6:30pm to watch a live stream from the gathering! The Friends in
Faith youth and adults will be on stage Wednesday night, and you can watch
them on the big screen. Our friend, LeAnn Wright, volunteered to host
everyone in the CLC starting at 6:30pm. It would be great if everyone could
bring a snack to share with the group. Here is the link to the live stream if you
would like to watch at home: www.elca.org/gathering. Friends in Faith will
also be on stage and helping with the gathering on Friday night, July 20th, so
check out the gathering link that night to see them live!

Thank you to everyone who has supported us and made this trip possible!
Peace,
Friends in Faith
